Or maybe your current status settings are to blame. Maybe your connection is unstable, or you’re running an outdated app version. Type an SMS message you want to send to the contact, and click/tap on the Send button. There can be multiple reasons as to why Skype may fail to send or receive instant messages. Verify that you have the contacts SMS phone number selected in the Send via menu. While Microsoft is not the first company to do that, it should have added an option to close Skype to the application as it is a much requested feature by users of the communication software. Select (check) the contact (ex: Rusty) you want, and click/tap on Start. It is rather interesting that Microsoft's Skype team changes the century old function of the close button. Downside to the method is that you need to sign in to Skype again if you need to use it not a problem for users who use it once or twice a year, but a problem for users who use it regularly. Just select Quit Skype from the menu to terminate the program for good. That option is only available for signed out users, apparently. If you right-click on the Skype icon in the system tray now, however, you will notice that it has a quit Skype option. To fix this issue, you can change the mail protection filter of the third-party email system to use the 'P1 sender address' instead (which is formatted correctly), and then enable these kinds of email messages to pass through. Signing out keeps Skype open and if you don't investigate further, you could come to the conclusion that it does not change anything in regards to closing Skype. However, the Skype for Business or Teams client filters messages depending on the formatting of the FROM field.
